Courtroom to Classroom
Impact litigation challenges an unlawful injustice – often, one persisting due to political pressure and misinformation about the issue – both in a court of law and in the court of public opinion. By simultaneously effecting legal change through a lawsuit, while turning the tide of public opinion through a media and organizing campaign, impact litigation creates both the impetus and the opportunity for real and sustainable policy transformation.
But Students Matter’s work does not end with impact litigation. In order to ensure our legal victories in the courtroom translate into lasting policy change for students in the classroom, Students Matter actively engages in legislative advocacy, supported by grassroots community engagement.
Students Matter works with diverse coalitions of organizations and individuals to advocate for common sense education policies proven to increase access to high-quality public education, especially in underserved and under-resourced communities.
Students Matter believes that when parents, students, educators and community leaders all have a seat at the policymaking table, we can achieve an education system that gives all students the quality education they deserve.
