Students Matter Staff
Prior to joining Students Matter in January 2014, David was Executive Director of Teach For America – Los Angeles. He grew Teach For America’s local teacher corps by 40%, increased the region’s funding base by more than 2 million dollars, and managed 36 staff members and a 10-member Advisory Board. He was also responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of more than 300 teachers in schools across Los Angeles.
David’s commitment to closing the opportunity gap grew through his formative experiences as a Teach For America staff member and as a New York City public school teacher. As a Recruitment Director at Teach For America, he drove record-breaking recruitment campaigns at Yale, Columbia, and Dartmouth. Before that, David was a sixth-grade math teacher in Harlem, where he also led the union chapter at his school. David’s students significantly outperformed their peers at neighboring schools on the annual New York State Math Exam.
David is a proud native of the Los Angeles area. He has traveled extensively in Latin America and Asia and is fluent in Spanish. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yale University and a Masters in Teaching from Pace University.
